Here’s a sample scoop from the novella Edward’s Law by Felicity Brandon
Blurb:
The Dexterity—designed to be the pride of the King’s navy, is mine.
Or, at least, she should have been, had the scoundrel Edward Law not waltzed into Christy’s auction house and stolen her from right under my nose.
But if Law thinks he can claim what rightfully belongs me to me, then he has another thing coming.
No man can make demands on me, be he gentleman, or otherwise.
I won’t concede to his dark, brooding eyes. I won’t surrender to his iron will.
Edward Law means nothing to me…

Excerpt:
Edward smiled. “As you can see, I have news of my own.”
He tilted his head in the direction of Alice, and for an excruciating moment, both men turned and regarded her. Alice’s face burned with embarrassment, and instinctively, she lowered her gaze, her attention falling on the stiff ropes at her wrists.
“A woman, Captain?”
“Very observant, Carlisle,” said Edward with a laugh. “Yes, a stowaway by the name of Alice Jaggers.”
“But a woman, sir,” the other man repeated. “It’s bad luck to have a woman onboard.”
Alice lifted her chin with interest. Bad luck, huh? This could be her way off the vessel altogether.
“Only if you subscribe to superstitions,” countered Law in an amused tone. “Which as you know, I do not. It is not luck that has brought us good fortune in the past but our own fortitude.”
Carlisle raised his brows but said nothing to protest. “How did she get on board, sir? And what are we to do with her?”
Alice’s belly twisted at the last question, her gaze darting once more to Edward Law. Until today, he was a man she had barely even contemplated—the man at the auction, a name on a list at Christie’s, but nothing more. Now, it seemed Mr. Law held Alice’s destiny in his hands, and she was heady with the new reality.
“I found her hidden in my quarters,” explained Edward as he turned to face Alice. “As for your second query, Carlisle, we are not going to do anything with her. As captain, our guest is my responsibility.”
She gulped at the way he made that sound, suddenly unsure if she should be grateful or afraid—worse was the way Alice’s body was reacting to the tattered captain. Where she had previously been disgusted by the sight of the man, she was fast becoming compelled. The weight of his stare and his authoritative presence had affected Alice in ways she could never have foreseen, and as she met his gaze again, she was perturbed by the way heat pooled beneath her gown.
“I should like you to stand guard outside my door while I address the crew.” Edward’s focus was back on Carlisle now. “I am sure you can understand I cannot have any of the men stumbling upon her by mistake.”
Carlisle turned to look at Alice, his brown eyes drilling into her. “Aye, sir,” he responded after a moment. “I can understand.”
Law moved toward him, resting his hand on the shorter man’s shoulder. “I would trust only you with this objective, my friend,” he said solemnly. “Keep her safe for me.”
“You can count on me, Captain,” Carlisle smiled, revealing two crooked front teeth. “Good. Then I must depart.” Law turned in Alice’s direction, fixing her with a hard stare. “I shall not be long, but until that time, behave yourself.”
Alice pulled in a deep breath as both men stalked from the room. She watched as the door slammed closed behind them, imagining Carlisle waiting just beyond. A potent myriad of emotions stirred as she heard what she assumed to be Law’s boots pacing away.
No man had ever spoken to her that way. Even her father had treated his only daughter with courtesy and respect when he addressed her.
Alice blinked, shaking her head as she processed what she was feeling.
On the one hand, she was embarrassed at her current predicament, entirely of her own making, and no idea how it would be reconciled, but on the other hand, she was seething with indignation at the way she had been treated. The way Law had spoken to her—dressing her down like a servant. Her face flamed as she recalled his proximity and the way he had touched her—the nerve of the man—then had somehow made her admit the error of her ways aloud. That was a feat no one had achieved before. Alice may have been guilty, but she would never have admitted such, especially to a stranger.
She sighed, eyeing the captain’s quarters as she struggled against the ropes. Being bound this way was intolerable—just like Law’s insufferable arrogance and the way he made assumptions about Alice. He assumed she would obey him and would be pliant to his plans. She snorted—the man had a lot to learn about Alice Jaggers if he thought she would remain compliant. She had not sneaked her way on board just to end up his bound captive, yet even as resentment burned in her blood, there was also something else. His commanding presence, just like the bondage, had stirred something in Alice.
Something she had not expected.
Something that felt like desire.

Thorolf and wolf.jpg

Excerpt:

A cold wet nose pushed into [Ailsa’s] palm. She glanced down, and there was Shadow, the wolf she had befriended, materialising in his uncanny way to comfort her.
The wolf’s yellow gaze met Ailsa’s briefly then slid away. His size and strength were reassuring to her, his thick pelt warm beneath her palm. Shadow often sensed her mood, appearing silently at her side—especially when she hunted deep within the forest. The Vikings moved again, and Shadow gave a low, growl. Ailsa released a sighing breath.
A sudden shout was followed by loud cries from the village. Ailsa neared the forest’s edge, slipping between the trees while Shadow nervously hung back.
The Viking leader appeared to be holding Eithne tightly, which told Ailsa their intentions were hostile. Readying her bow, she watched closely, swearing to let her arrow fly if anything dangerous happened.
An ominous crack of twigs behind her broke the silence. Shadow’s snarl alerted her to danger. The hairs rose on the nape of her neck. Turning, she saw nothing—then, through the trees, a man emerged. He appeared as thick as a tree trunk and just as tall. Dia! A Viking!|
His muscular chest was wide and strong, while his gaze seemed strangely wolf-like, his amber eyes intently focused upon Ailsa. Taut as the string on her bow, Ailsa lowered her weapon—gradually, carefully.
Calmly raising his arm, he spoke, seemingly without threat, although Ailsa sensed his apprehension. The Viking stretched out his palm, indicating the wolf should stand down and, to Ailsa’s amazement, Shadow sat, his threatening growl diminishing to a mere rumble of discontent.
Ailsa trembled under the scrutiny of the invader, intimidated by his superior physique. Her cheeks heated. How did a man become so muscular?
The Norseman rose to his feet gracefully and, closing the distance between them, held out his hand. At first, she refused to touch him—to trust him. His kind meant only death for her people. Had she not lost her own father during a Viking raid? But there was something about him… Hesitant, Ailsa finally accepted his aid, reaching for his hand. He pulled her up, holding her against his chest. She stared at his bronzed body, hardened by labour and war. Surprisingly, he smelled good.

Teaser snippets from the Prologue

The Vikings were merciless, murdering barbarians. And they were here.
With a despairing sob, Eithne turned from the sight below. She could still run, might be able to make it into the depths of the forest before the first of the raiders reached the village. She had perhaps a few minutes…
“To take up arms against men such as them would lead to certain death.”
“Better to die with honour—”
“Better still not to die at all. I have another idea. We shall negotiate.”
“By your presence here, I surmise you wish to speak with me.” He leaned down to murmur in her ear. “Or, if you prefer, there is still time to run for your life.”
“You would catch me,” she countered.
“Aye, probably.”
“And kill me.”
“It may not come to that.”

Intrigued, amused, and not a little astonished, Brandr folded his arms to regard her. “A bargain? You seek to bargain with me?”
“I do.”
The female held his gaze, an accomplishment which eluded many of his most hardened warriors. His respect for her audacity and fortitude nudged upwards. “Go on.”

Excerpt: He admired her gorgeous hair, a pool of gleaming copper. Soft, silken, tendrils trailed like fire over the creamy mounds of her breasts, nipples taut, exposed to his carnal gaze. He ached with the need to mate her; she was irresistible, ravishing. Standing, he peeled off his clothes, turning to face her, his manhood pulsing stiffly from his groin.

“Look at me, wife,” he commanded. She gazed at him, never having seen a man naked before, she was fascinated; her eyes devoured the sight of his tumescent hardness that testified his desire for her. How proudly it jutted, long and thick. Were all men made so, she wondered. Her eyes travelled down his long powerful legs, covered in whorls of dark curling hair, the plain of his flat stomach, the wide, well-muscled chest, coated in the same dark hair. Her gaze took in his broad shoulders and strong biceps. Linnet’s gaze finally settled on John’s lean face.

Disconcertingly, he watched her beneath those hooded inscrutable grey eyes, his stare unwavering. As he moved purposefully towards the bed she shyly, nervously, shifted over to accommodate him. He gathered her into his embrace, kissing and caressing her. He began to stir her passion once more. His deft fingers worked their magic, her furrow quivering, slickly plump with desire. He slowly moved above her, this time she parted her legs unconsciously welcoming,   he guided himself to her waiting cleft.

With a thrust, he drove into her yielding channel, she lifted her hips, bucking, meeting thrust for thrust, needing him.

“Now,” he whispered hoarsely, “now... you see, you are mine.”

Excerpt from – The King’s Vice by the amazing Felicity Brandon

One stride and he is right against me, his breath hot over my face, laced with the expensive wine we consumed earlier in the evening. “Yes, Lady Jane,” he answers. “This is where you shall be bared and spanked.”

Bared? I know my eyes widen at the word. “I am to be bared, Your Majesty?” I say, forcing the words from my mouth in a rush of anxious excitement. “All of me?”

He breaks into a low laugh. “There is a choice,” he replies, pushing my shoulders gently downwards, so that my bottom falls to the soft bedding below me. Now he towers over me, and as I raise my head to see him, my eyes meet his groin. I still at the sudden proximity to the place I know conceals His Majesty’s passion, my gaze lingering longer than it has right to, before rising slowly to meet his delicious brown eyes. His grin widens, acknowledging the brazen nature of my thoughts, and unbelievably I blush again, grateful for the shadows which may just hide my shame.

“A choice, Your Majesty?” I manage, my chest rising and falling faster with each passing moment.

He lowers himself in front of me, so that our eyes are at the same level. “A choice,” he agrees, pressing himself forward over my body. I gasp as he shifts his weight, his dexterity taking me by surprise. The sudden appearance of his face forces me backwards, and I find myself pinioned beneath his body, my legs splayed awkwardly under the skirts of my gown.

“There is always a choice, Lady Jane,” he murmurs, the strands of his dark curls hanging about my face.

I bite my lip, confusion and arousal at my change of circumstances, combined with my restricting bodice making it hard to breath. “What is the choice, Your Majesty?” I gasp.

The smile on his face is sin itself, and in this moment, I know that I have walked straight into his trap, although whether I have done so willingly or not is not even clear to me. “You can either be upturned over my knee, your skirts hoisted high over your back so that your delicious bottom is exposed to my palm, or…” He pauses, angling the weight of his stare over my face.

My mind, filled with the image he has just painted of me, reels at the silence. Is he expecting me to reply? What is the etiquette for such moments?

His expression shifts into a low chuckle as he appraises whatever constitutes my expression at this moment, and fortunately he once again takes pity on me, his humble servant. “Or, you can be stripped entirely.”

This time I cannot conceal the audible gasp which escapes from my lips. “Entirely, Your Majesty?” I repeat, as though surely his words cannot be real. Although of course I know them to be true, having only just left four naked ladies in the prior room.

“Yes, dear Jane,” he muses from over me. “A lady can only truly be admired in her own, natural form.”

I contemplate him, this man—my monarch—who has captured me so easily into his delicious game. “No one has ever seen me bare, Your Majesty,” I whisper, the words an admission of my innocence—a fact I have already articulated.

He nods. “I know,” he replies. “And I assume that until this night no man has ever claimed your sweet mouth, spoken to you of such lewd subjects, or pinned you against his bed?”

His brow rises as he speaks, the small gesture releasing a flood of moisture from between my legs. I am not absolutely clear what it is about him which is so alluring, but he most certainly has it. Yes, he is the King, and yet it is so much more than that. He is the devil in disguise, a debauch and beguiling demon, sent forth to worship and corrupt me. The thought makes me smile, in spite of my shame on the subject.

“You’re correct, Your Majesty,” I say with a small nod. “You are the first, on all counts.”

Smiling at the acknowledgment, he lowers his face into mine. Those full lips graze my mouth, parting my lips in an instant as my eyes slip shut. I want him to kiss me, to claim me, to own me. I desire it in a way I have no right to do. I demand it.

The Smuggler's Bride by Vanessa Brooks

I’m starting 2018 with a spotlight on The Smuggler’s Bride, book four in the Masterful Husbands series. This series is a collection of Georgian romances from Vanessa Brooks. Once again, the naughty ladies of the spanked wives’ society manage to get themselves embroiled in yet another tangled mess.

At the end of this blog post there is an interview with the hot Jago Poldrunne – don’t miss it!

Even as she hated him, she craved his touch.

Blurb: Primrose Latimer has a fiancé to be proud of, a gentleman destined to become Lord Trewithe of Pencullen House in Cornwall, but a case of mistaken identity scuppers her chances of ever becoming his Lady wife. Her hopes and aspirations dashed, she is determined that the man who has ruined her, a Cornish smuggler, shall pay dearly for her losses.

However, fate and Jago Poldrunne have other plans for Primrose, as swirling sea mists and smugglers abound!

Disclaimer: If fast paced, romantic, humorous romps, featuring strong, handsome commanding gentlemen are not your thing – then please do not buy this seductive, 18th century romance!

Excerpt:

They were ensconced together within his cabin. He in his captain’s chair with her tossed cosily across his lap, doing her utmost to avoid his correcting palm with absolutely no success. Strangely Jago could not remember the last time he’d enjoyed himself quite so much. She was a comely baggage, albeit one with a sharp tongue. Although she deigned to show no fear, he had to admire her courage in what must be a singularly frightening situation for her. He continued to raise his arm, bringing it down with strong emphasis, until she slumped dejectedly across his knee. Only then did he lower his hand to rest upon her rounded posterior. Gently he massaged her heated globes, she moaned, unconsciously shifting her hips upward to meet his soothing palm.

An interview with Jago Poldrunne:

VB: “Hello you’re Jago Poldrunne aren’t you? It’s very nice to meet you.” Bloody hell, this man is gorgeous! Furiously fanning face!

JP: ‘An’ who might you be?’

VB: “Vanessa Brooks, It is very nice to meet you.”

JP: ‘What d’you want wench?’

VB: “I’d like to interview you. I would be very grateful if you could spare me the time to answer a few questions.”

JP: ‘Did Primrose put you up to this? Are you married to an Excise man? What exactly is it that you want to know?’

VB:“I have no connection with any Excise men neither does my husband I assure you and Primrose had nothing to do with this but I’m curious, what would you have done if she had been involved?”

JP: ‘Did no one tell you that curiosity killed the cat missy -Carry on with these personal questions and you might wish you hadn’t found out the answers, Mistress brooks.’

VB: “Um, okay, well would mind just telling me a little something about yourself please?”

JP: ‘I’m a Cornish man, born and bred and proud of it. My father t’were Squire of Poldrunne but he died a couple of years ago so now I am Squire. The people of Cornwall relied too heavily upon tin mining and for an age our children ate and had clothes upon their back. Then came cheaper tin imports from abroad and our mines began to close. This caused terrible hardship and starvation, no one seemed to care that the people of Cornwall were dying. Men turned back to the sea. Some returned to a life of fishing while others turned to smuggling but the important thing was our people lived and filled their bellies once again. O’course there was other means to feed a family. Evil men took to wrecking, luring ships onto the rocks in order to steal the cargo then sell it on.’

VB: “I take it that you don’t hold with wrecking?”

JP: ‘No, I most certainly do not! My but you’re an impertinent wench! You are married you say, Mistress brooks?’

VB: “Yes...why?”

JP: ‘Tis clear to me that you need taking in hand, your husband needs to teach you some manners. I’ll speak with him; assure him that this should do the trick.’

VB “Err...I have just remembered that I have an errand to run I have to go. Thanks for taking the time to talk with me, goodbye Mr... I mean, Squire Poldrunne!”

JP: ‘Here wench give that to your husband, tell him ’tis a gift from me!’

VB “That’s terribly kind but no thanks I...”

JP: ‘Take it. Mayhap I should demonstrate its use?’

VB “Um, no need, thanks for the um, gift. I have to go, bye-ee!”

VB to herself: What exactly is my husband meant to do with a piece of old tar rope?
