Venomous Craving by Mary Auclair

Today Mary Auclair joins me with her fantasy thriller, Venomous Craving, (Eok Warriors book one).

Blurb: In a world where humanity has been hunted to near extinction, Rose is captured and on her way to be sold on the lucrative slave black market.

Seizing her only chance, she escapes and find fate waiting for her in the form of another captive of terrifying strength, a legendary Eok warrior. Together Rose and Karian fight for their survival, and ultimately for the fate of the entire human race.

In the midst of the battle, a dangerous attraction is born. Soon, the call for a mate torments Karian’s body, turning his desires into an imperious craving. Will Rose accept him as her bloodmate, and seal both their destinies, before everything is lost?

Disclaimer: Venomous Craving is an erotic romance that includes power exchanges and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Excerpt:

She turned to face him, with all intentions to thank him like she’d never thanked anyone before. Her words stumbled on each other and were lost before they escaped her lips.

The first things her eyes focused on were the bars. A cage. The stranger, her savior, stared from the other side, his shining bright blue irises fixed on her like on prey. His appearance struck her across the brain like a blow.

He was completely bald, and his ear-less head was smooth and round. The features on his face were sharp and angular, with prominent cheekbones and brows, accentuated by a straight nose marred by three ridges. His was a sensuous face, direct and challenging, the face of a man used to the reaction of others to his superior strength. His mouth was stretched in a superior smile, and Rose’s eyes caught on his full, fleshy lips, parted to show a row of pearly white teeth. And fangs. He had two long, sharp fangs where humans had merely harmless canines. His midnight blue skin shimmered in the dusty light, and as the air cleared progressively, so did the fog in Rose’s head.

Her eyes traveled across the landscape of tiny scars marking his skin in a regular pattern over his cheeks, forehead, and along his jaw. He wore pants, but no shirt, and his exposed torso was a tangle of lean muscles, bulging with strength going down to his waist. He was a fine man, with power and raw testosterone leaking from every pore of his being. Supremely masculine, attractive to no end, and definitively not human.

Oh, my God.

She knew what he was.

“You’re Eok.” The words stumbled from her lips in a whisper, as if she spoke them any louder, they would bite her tongue.

“And you’re human.” His eyes traveled up and down her body in a slow assessment.

Theirs To Master by BJ Wane

Get ready to one-click. BJ Wane has released her sixth book in the Miami Masters series, Theirs to Master and the reviews are flooding in. Readers’ comments: “a top notch dark and sexy,” “a super hot book” and “hot chemistry and passion, danger, misunderstandings plus the need to protect makes a very good read.”

She took to their dual control like a fish to water, but had she gotten in too deep to survive without them?

Blurb:
Paige Wilcox has been lusting after the Carlson brothers since the first time she saw the two men enter the cops’ bar where she works.  Problem is, neither man shows her the slightest interest-not until her sister is attacked at a club and they discover Paige posing as a submissive to draw out the assailant.
Troy and Trevor Carlson always found the feisty redhead attractive, but steered clear of personal involvement since she showed no signs of being sexually submissive.  Fear for her safety and a determination to keep her out of their investigation into a serial attacker prods them to insist she complete the terms of an auction contract after they win the bid on her.  Neither Paige nor the brothers are prepared for the streak of submissiveness she exhibits under their dual control.
Paige doesn’t fight her growing need for the two men and the alternative sex they introduce her to, but when they give no hints the feeling is mutual, she despairs of anything coming of the short-term relationship. It takes the reappearance of the man they were after and another threat to Paige to get all three on board with giving a committed, three-way relationship a try.
Publisher’s Note: Theirs to Master is a steamy contemporary ménage romance contains elements of power exchange. While it is book six of the Miami Masters series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

Excerpt:

Only sheer stubbornness kept Paige from saying red when Trevor pulled her jeans down.  Her natural inclination to protest this indignity with ‘no way, no how’, fell to the wayside the minute her mons pressed against Troy’s muscled thigh and she looked up to see raw lust and rich approval etched on Trevor’s face.  Then Troy cupped her butt cheek, his calloused palm brushing against her bare skin setting off sparks of pleasure that commanded her attention.  She’d yearned for their attention for months, and now had it in spades.

Few of her lovers ever bothered with ass play, so she’d never imagined that part of her anatomy could be so erogenous.  But the more he explored her buttocks, squeezing then caressing, the hotter she became.  A curl of arousal took up residence between her legs, softening her pussy, dampening her slit until embarrassment forced her to tighten her thighs.

Closing her eyes, Paige tuned out the voices from the ongoing auction and shoved aside fretting over whether anyone else’s eyes were on her.  The tantalizing caresses eased her into relaxing then prodded her to wiggle her butt and loosen her thighs in a teasing hint to do more, to touch her where she ached.

“I think she’s ready.”

The amused inflection in Trevor’s voice snagged her attention one second before his words sank in.  Before she could register the full meaning of that comment, Troy halted the soothing, arousing strokes of his hand and delivered a sharp swat to rival the one Damien issued on the stage.

Her head reared up in startled astonishment at the abrupt switch from coaxing pleasure to blistering pain.  Before she could say anything, he swatted her again, adding an identical throbbing burn on her other cheek.

“Take a deep breath, Paige, and lie still.  It’ll be over before you know it.”

Shaking her hair out of her eyes, she glared up at Trevor as Troy peppered her buttocks with an array of slaps that robbed her of breath.  “Easy…ow!…for you to say,” she gasped, her mind consumed with the fiery heat spreading across her entire backside and the deep throbbing encompassing her abused skin and spreading to her pussy.

“You should’ve heeded our warnings, and remembered I mentioned consequences if you continued with your harebrained scheme to interfere in my investigation,” Troy admonished without slowing the rapid volley of spanks.

It was hard to think straight, to pay attention to what either man said, but she managed to stick up for herself with a quick rebuttal.  “I don’t take orders from anyone…holy shit!”  Crap but those last two hurt!  “Damn it, I’m not one of your little groupies, willing to let you walk all over me.”  Desperate to deny her body’s heated response and the pleasure inching its way past her resistance to this degradation, she tried to wriggle away from his descending hand, but Trevor reached out and clamped his hands over the top of her thighs.  Between Troy’s imprisoning hand braced between her shoulders and Trevor’s tight told, they left her no choice but to endure and accept her surprising reaction or say red and pay the hefty price tag of ending this now.

Excerpt:

The sound of gravel crackling below the weight of tires came up behind him, but Ty didn’t turn around. He was too focused on the activity flaming in front of him.

Bright headlights dimmed as the sound of the quiet engine cut off while Ty crossed his well-defined arms over his chest and studied the activity in front of him.

He finally turned around just as a 29-year-old woman placed her shapely legs out of the candy-apple sports car. She wore vivid red stiletto heels, which hugged her petite feet perfectly. Ty took a moment to ogle the beautiful woman as she stood with her long legs gracefully taking on the weight of her fit body. She wore dressy black shorts and a business casual top accented by costume jewelry.

Noticing the calm that blanketed the site, Ty turned to find most of his men had stopped to look at the mysterious woman as well.

He cleared this throat. They didn’t have time to waste gawking after the magnificent creature who clearly didn’t belong on his construction site.

“Excuse me! We only have a couple of hours before the concrete arrives. Let’s go!” he yelled, and his men quickly swarmed back to work.

Once he was satisfied that the distraction was no longer an issue, Ty turned his attention back to the beauty approaching him with a box of donuts in her hand.

She had long, smooth chocolate hair hanging down her back, which looked recently trimmed and styled. She didn’t appear to be wearing any makeup and clearly didn’t need to.

“Are you Ty?” her singsong voice asked him.

“Yes. Can I help you?” He regretted how blunt his words sounded but, in his defense, it was not a good time.

“Ty, I’m Grace. I’m here to help you manage this job,” she collectedly told him, extending her delicate hand while balancing the donuts in the other.

Ty couldn’t hold back the howl of laughter that rose from his gut. He didn’t accept her handshake and flashed a bright smile.

“Oh, sweetheart, that’s a good one. Who sent you? Bill?” Ty asked her with laughter remaining in his eyes.

She didn’t waver, humor absent from her sky-blue eyes.

“If you mean Bill Evans, then yes, he sent me.”

“You can tell Bill I said thank you for the laugh and donuts,” he responded, appraising her body with his hungry eyes. He reached out and graciously took the donuts from her with a coy smile on his lips.

“I’m sorry. I think you misunderstand why I’m here, Mr. Parks. I’m not here for your visual pleasure. I’m here to help manage,” she said and tilted her chin just a little higher.

Her tone sobered Ty just a little.

“I’m sorry. I don’t need help,” he told her, switching gears and flashing her a coy smile.

“Mr. Evans advised me there was an issue with a subcontractor this morning?” Now her eyes held a hint of amusement, which clouded them like a slate blue storm.

“There was, but as you can see, it’s been handled, and we are back on schedule,” he smiled, trying his hardest to hide the discontent flowing in his veins.

She raised her voice so that everyone on the site could hear her, “Maybe I should introduce myself and get started on the right foot.”

Ty tried to keep his anger intact, shifted uncomfortably on his feet. Maybe this was a test to see if he would get distracted.

“So, Mr. Parks, I would like to formally introduce myself. I’m Grace Evans, Bill Evans’ daughter.” She extended her manicured hand firmly out again.

This time Ty accepted it as his jaw dropped wide open.

Questions and answers  with Stella Grace

Where did Grace come from?

I’ve personally worked in the construction field for almost fifteen years and I’ve found it to be very difficult to excel as a woman. I’m not saying that I have been degraded or disrespected in my field. I have worked with some amazing men that have treated me with the utmost respect. What I am talking about is the lack of women in construction. In my experience it is a very male dominated field, from Architects, to Engineers and General Contractors. Grace is a woman that wants to break the mold and show people that just because she is a beautiful woman doesn’t mean her only role is a secretary.

Was there a particular reason to choose the subject of construction?

Write what you know. I was taught that a long time ago so I knew that construction had to be my field. When you read Renovating His Heart, you’ll hear my knowledge about construction and the working of a jobsite.

Grace is a strong character. Is she based on you?

I’d like to think myself a fireball.  I don’t back down. But I’ve also been very lucky to work for men in my field that have respected me and openly educated me when I needed it. Not all women in construction have had positive experiences like me and I wanted to shed a little light on that.

Any comments on the title?

I love tiles that play on words. So Renovating His Heart seemed appropriate.

New release: Trusting Ingrid

My road trip has drawn to a happy conclusion and I’m home again. Just in time to share the news that Trusting Ingrid, book 3 in the Romancing the Coast series is out now.

Ingrid has been expecting to have this conversation her entire life. She’s skated on the edge of the law for so long, she’s always expected to have it with a judge or prison warden.

Blurb:

Ingrid Nickel doesn’t want to go into rehab. Again. She tried it once but it didn’t work.

When she meets Lachlan Morrison, the connection is electric. She sees a handsome man, directing and challenging, who won’t be intimidated by a powerful woman like her. He sees a woman whose bluster and sarcasm is a cover for something deep inside her that is badly broken.

The daughter of a grifter, Ingrid has grown up street-wise and lawless. Lachlan has rescued more than one creature whose bark was worse than its bite.

Will his stern, loving magic work on Ingrid?

Publishers note: Although loosely part of a series, Trusting Ingrid, a spicy romance can be read as a stand alone story. It includes scenes of domestic discipline and power exchanges.

Trusting Ingrid.jpg

Excerpt:

The newsreaders said the rain was part of an atmospheric river that would pass in twenty-four, maybe thirty-six, hours but Lachlan insisted they walk Cotter regardless.

“A dog like that needs lots of exercise,” he said.

Ingrid trudged along silently, unable to talk to Lachlan because they were both hunched under their hoods, deafened by the hammering downpour. In those drenched miles, Ingrid learned what it would be like to walk along a riverbed, with water constantly washing over her. By the time they were home, she was chilled, tired, and in a mood darker than the skies above. She decided to get the next bad part of the day over with, sending Lachlan the usual text.

He found her in the bedroom, playing poker on her iPad.

Without looking at him she said, “Guess what? I’m too tired for a spanking.”

He sat beside her. “Guess what? You’re getting one anyway.”

He took the iPad out of her hands and wrestled her to her feet in front of him. She stood, stubbornly not looking at him. He tried to pull her leggings and panties down. She locked her legs together, pressing her lips into a thin line, her jaw set.

“You want to make this last longer, do you?” he asked. “Because I’ve got the rest of the afternoon free. If my hand gets tired, I have a belt. You decide.”

Her eyes met his. She blinked before pulling her own pants down. She was barely across his lap when he started to spank her. Hard. He spanked her quickly, efficiently, with more force that he’d ever used before. Within seconds she forgot the rain, she forgot being embarrassed by having to ask for a spanking. She forgot everything but the river of pain being delivered to her backside. By reflex she cried for him to stop, even though she knew he wouldn’t. Every ounce of willpower she possessed was devoted to not breaking the position on his lap, even though she knew she was strong enough to get away if she wanted to.

Lachlan wasn’t a caveman dragging her by her hair to a beating because she was helpless to resist. She was physically strong. She was mentally devious. She could scream loud enough to wake the dead if she wanted to. In short, she could get up and walk away. And then what? Try to find someone else as sexy, as affectionate, as caring as Lachlan?

Impossible.

Besides, the idea of the spankings turned her on. The reality of them scared her. But they didn’t last forever and he was always so gentle after.

When the spanking stopped that afternoon, she burst to her feet like a diver coming up for air. Grateful for his determination to spank her, to not let her weasel her way out of what they both knew she needed, she wrapped her arms around his neck. Kissing the top of his head, she said, “Thank you."

The art of submission

No, not that type of submission. But if you’re interested in this beautiful sculpture, here’s the buy link on ebay.

I’m talking about this type of submission:

IMG_7837.JPG

Last week I submitted my most recent novel to my publisher Blushing Books. Until they answer, I will check my mail with bated breath.

Finishing the working draft of a book always feels like the completion of a long journey. It’s when I sit back and think: how did I get to "the end" this time? I’ve seen authors discuss their writing process.  I’ve never attempted to. Perhaps because I’ve never written any two books with the identical process.

But all my books have had some common elements:

·       As soon as I get the idea for a story, I sketch out a plot arc. It includes the end of the ordinary world, halfway point, crisis, climax, and resolution.

·       For my last four books, I’ve set up Pinterest boards to collect the images that help me see the story. The board for my latest book, Trusting Ingrid, is here.

·       I make copious notes as my stories reveal themselves to me. I carry a notebook and pen always. Often it looks like it has snowed inside the house because my desk is buried under a blanket of white.

·       As I start each book, I open a new Excel workbook where I track the names and details of each character on one spreadsheet. I use another spreadsheet to track chapters. When a book is finished, a copy of the names sheet is added to the workbook called Book Bible. Then, when new characters come into a subsequent work, I can check this workbook to see if I’ve already used whatever names I want to give them. I started doing this after a workshop with the amazing Cora Seton last year. I wish I’d known the tool earlier and avoided a name duplication in two of my releases.

·       I read my books aloud as I write them. The Leading Man listens patiently. He offers suggestions, catches continuity problems, and takes notes when I wish he wouldn’t.

·       I revise. Many, many times.

·       I plug the entire manuscript into Natural Reader. I started using this with A Time For Will. A typo queen like me needs all the help she can get.

Those are the common points in my writing process as of February 2018.

This week I’m full of post-submission hope as I sketch out my next story.
What do you do after submission? Do you celebrate each step of the writing process: completing a book, submitting it, getting rejected, getting accepted, publication ... etc?

Update: February 28: Trusting Ingrid has now been accepted for publication. Watch this space for more details.

Mastering Her Fear by BJ Wane

BJ Wane is here today with her new book Mastering Her Fear, book 3 in the Miami Masters series, but one that can easily be read as a standalone.

Her skin turned hot, her flesh pulsed and her senses skyrocketed.  How had she survived so long without his dominant control to drive out her fear?

Blurb:

Julie Martin pulled on Jackson Davenport’s protective urges the minute he stepped outside and saw her go flying off her swing to land in a heap of gangly arms and legs then come up smiling. When he discovered how her parents pressed her into competing in beauty pageants for their own selfish gratification, he took it upon himself to provide her with the friendship the little girl craved. Years later, just when his adult feelings – and body – began to want more from the beautiful young woman she’d grown up to be, Julie moved away to take the modeling world by storm. Jackson’s first encounter with the changes in her personality broke his heart and he severed all ties with her.

Six years later, Julie returns to Jackson a broken woman, unable to cope with the nightmare that changed her life forever. When he discovers her penchant for cutting herself to deal with the fear, he shows her a new side of him she’s never seen before, and a new way to get through the darkness that continues to plague her.

Even though Julie embraces Jackson’s dominant sexuality and the way his painful ministrations work much better at calming her fears, the truth of what happened the night her two friends were murdered stands between them. Will she be able to set aside her guilt to tell him the entire truth, or will she once again lose the only person who can complete her?

Publisher’s Note: This book is intended for adults only. It contains elements of power exchange and explicit scenes. While it is the third title in the Miami Masters series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Excerpt:

Jackson couldn’t decipher what Julie’s grimace meant or why the mention of orgasms would make her muscles tighten, but he could pull the cause out of her later. Today was for demonstrating. Sliding his hands around to her buttocks, he kneaded the soft flesh, keeping a close eye for her response. “I enjoyed spanking you the other day. You did, too, which means you’ll like this.” He released her ass to pick up a multi-strand flogger and trailed the narrow leather strips over her breasts.

“Is that what I think it is?” she questioned with a catch in her voice.

“I don’t read minds, Julie.”

“And I might be green about your sexual preferences, but I know what a flogger is,” she returned, her voice going breathless as he tickled her waist then glided the leather strips up the inside of one leg. “But I’ve never felt one.”

“This one has twelve strands, long and thin to cover a larger area. Spread your feet wider and leave them there.” She complied without hesitation, another positive sign. Jackson moved to stand at her side, teased the globes of her ass with another slow trail of the braided leather then pulled back to deliver a light snap over both cheeks, just hard enough to leave faint pink stripes behind. “You good?”

“Yes, yes, I’m fine.” The rows of tiny stings that stroke elicited drew her nipples into tighter beads and added to the building dampness in her pussy. Julie bit her lip again, waiting in anticipation for the next strike. It came fast, this one a little sharper, landing below the first, the extra punch seeping deep inside her and pulling a response she never dreamed possible. “Jackson.”

Happy New Year, with a full & grateful heart

aaaspankyou.jpg

It’s December 31st here on the West Coast of Canada. Before we slip into a New Year, I’m looking back over the past twelve months, mellow with warm memories of 2017.

Sure there were some troubling international events, but on a personal, daily basis it was a good year for me and those I love.

I’m grateful for the chance to write down the stories that shadow me everywhere. When new characters invade my consciousness, it starts an exciting, sometimes exhausting chase. I love the building of the stories, the journeys down the rabbit holes of research, and the way characters often surprise me.

Throughout all this, I’m grateful to my Leading Man for his support and encouragement. Who else would volunteer to listen to me read every one of my books aloud?

A big thanks to Blushing Books who take that rough work, help me polish it into something fit for human consumption and launch it into the world.

I’m grateful for the community of writers that support and encourage each other. It’s a privilege belonging to that tribe.

Last but not least – in fact last but most important – thank you to all the people who have read my books and left kind reviews. Without you, none of this would matter.

Like Janus, I’m also looking forward to an opening door. That door is 2018. May it bring you good health, loyal friends, and a chance for happy adventures, with enough spice to make your toes curl.

Emerald Christmas by Pippa Greathouse - Another FREE cold weather, hot story

Are you enjoying the free stories that Blushing Books has been offering every day? Don’t miss today’s from that wonderful writer, Pippa Greathouse. Here’s a quick glimpse of Emerald Christmas to pique your interest:

Blurb: Cassandra Fairfax, has had it. She has decided to take refuge in the home her late husband Daniel built for her in days before his death, nestled in the side of a mountain in North Carolina. Matthew Downing, who owns the mountain and the emerald mine it sits on has told her the house is hers to claim, and claim it she will, just in time for Christmas. And she’s managed to arrive in the middle of a terrible storm just in time to see lightning strike the side of the mountain where her home is.

Matthew Downing is a good man; so everyone says. But on the fourth anniversary of his wife’s death, he is in no mood to celebrate. And when Cassandra shows up, full of attitude, defiance, and her own form of determination, he’s not at all inclined to put up with it.

After lightning strikes the house, he finds himself chasing her up the side of the mountain in pursuit of a little boy who doesn’t speak. Matthew rescues both of them. He delivers the child back home, and furiously marches her to the sheriff’s office.

He’s stunned, when he realizes who she is. She’s burned her bridges behind her. She’s wet, cold, bedraggled and forlorn after weathering the storm, and he knows she needs someone to look out for her. He’s also sure he’s lost his mind.  She may be loveable, but in his opinion she’s also a brat.

Yes, he’ll take care of her; yes, he’ll marry her, but there are conditions to which she must agree.

She understands that he’ll discipline if she’s disobedient or defiant, but the last of the requirements is the hardest of all. He refuses the very thing she came here to do… to celebrate Christmas.

Can she agree to this? To any of it? Cassandra isn’t sure what to think of this tall, handsome, strict man she’s married. And she certainly never expects to love him.

And Matthew wonders just what he’ll be able to do with his lovable Cassandra on this Emerald Christmas.

NEW RELEASE - A Time For Will - by Libby Campbell

My first ever time travel romance, A Time For Will, is now available from Amazon. Feast your eyes on this lovely cover from Blushing Books:

The story goes like this:

Identical twins, Verity and Felicity (Lissie) Pettigrew inherit an abandoned farm in the remote hills of the Methow Valley. Little do the twins know, but their windfall harbors a secret. While exploring the old barn, Verity stumbles into a hidden portal and is instantly transported more than one hundred years into the past.

In 1885, on the same farm, Will Dawson is saddling his horse when a disturbance in a corner of the barn catches his attention. In his haste to rescue the gorgeous woman in the center of the disturbance, Will is flung far into the future.

Meanwhile, Lissie arrives on the farm looking for Verity, but finds the handsome, slightly suspicious cowboy instead. From their first words to one another, sparks fly.

Lissie’s modern manners and profane language offend Will. His solution? Some old-fashioned discipline delivered on the spot.

Affronted by Will’s distinctly un-twenty-first century approach to male/female relationships, Lissie challenges his authority at every turn in spite of nearly always ending up over his knee.

Meanwhile, Verity must deal with life in 1885. Although accepted into Will’s family, she longs to get back to the 21st century and the man she loves.

Can Will live in a future in which progress comes at the price of everything he holds dear? Can Lissie win him over, and teach him that women can be independent and willful but still soft and sexy? Will Verity find her way back to the man she loves?

Publishers note: This stand alone love story includes scenes of domestic discipline and spicy romance.

#SatSpanks - When is a choice not a choice?

Fall has arrived here in the northern hemisphere but in the world of Cynthia Donohue, it’s springtime. She’s just taken possession of her new home. The previous occupants have left it in a mess so Cynthia and her friend, Antony, have spent the whole day cleaning it. Cynthia has an underlying illness that has left her exhausted from this effort.

Antony takes her back to their B and B and bathes her himself, while feeding her strawberries and champagne. Then he leads her into the bedroom where he has laid out a new sleep T-shirt he bought that day. She likes to sleep in full pajamas. He prefers her in the nude. The sleep T-shirt is his concession to her preferences.

One small detail: the sleep T is emblazoned with the words no pants are the best pants.

Another excerpt from, Holding Cynthia, Romancing the Coast, book 2.

They when into the bedroom where the new sleep T was laid out on the bed. Cynthia stopped and frowned. “I’m not going to bed already. It’s only six o’clock.”

“You don’t have to go to bed yet but you have to be ready for bed.”

She read the t-shirt as Antony toweled her hair. “No pants? I don’t think so!”

“Don’t you?” He stopped rubbing the wetness off her scalp. “I’ll give you a choice then. You can wear the T-shirt without panties, with a white bum. Or you can wear it without panties, and a red bum. How much do you want to argue? The other guests might be amused by the sound of a naughty girl having her bottom warmed.”
