Caress of Fire by Mary Auclair

Right in time for Christmas! Mary Auclair’s latest book, Caress of Fire, (Dawn of Dragons, book 2) has just been released.

You are mine, Marielle Jansen. You don't know it yet, but you are mine.

Blurb: With her brother in debt to the biggest crime lord of the slums, Marielle does the only thing she can to save him. She takes the debt on herself. But the only way she can repay it is to be claimed as mate by a Draekon Lord and deliver him an heir.
She has no intention of following through with the deal and plans to escape as soon as she's received payment. But when Lord Aymond Haal is found dead, Marielle is accused of his murder. Salvation comes in the unlikely form of Fedryc, son of Lord Aymond and the new High Lord.
In the harsh desert landscape, Marielle becomes Lord Fedryc's mate and finds pleasures she never suspected could exist.  As Marielle navigates the dangerous world of the Draekons and tries to rescue her brother, an enemy lurks in the shadows; a dark force bent on the destruction of all that she holds dear.
But can a human woman trust an all-powerful Draekon Lord? And will Lord Fedryc's love be enough to protect her?

Publishers’ Note: Caress of Fire is a sci-fi alien romance that has it all: dragons, passion and tension. It also contains explicit themes and is intended for adults only. Nothing in this book should be interpreted as Blushing Books’ or the author’s advocating non-consensual sexual activity.

Excerpt:

He looked at her with barely contained violence, with a hunger that could consume them both. Every line of his body was taut with muscles, from his long legs to his athletic shoulders and the powerful arms that were wrapped in heavy leather. His leather pants bulged at the middle from his very impressive erection, a clear sign of his arousal and intent.

He radiated virile strength, all the way up to the expression on his face.

Her dress suddenly felt too tight for her breasts and a fine layer of sweat covered her brow despite the cold of the early morning. Fear coursed through her veins like some frozen fire, arousing and terrifying her at the same time.

Because she had never had a man before, and Fedryc was so overwhelmingly male.

With clean, efficient movements, he took off his leather jacket and silk shirt, leaving his torso nude for her eyes. The man was built like a statue, all muscles and honey-colored skin, with dark nipples that were almost chocolate in color.

Arousal awakened in Marielle’s belly despite the fear, and she swallowed past a suddenly dry throat.

Fedryc moved closer and as he neared, she could feel the heat of his skin, so surreal, so inhuman. It both scared her and made her feel strangely reassured.

“Take off your dress, Marielle.” Fedryc spoke softly, much more softly than she thought he would. “I want to see my Draekarra.”

She couldn’t speak, so she simply nodded. Her hands were trembling, but she reached up to the laces at the front of her bodice and slowly loosened them until she was able to pull the panels of her dress loose.

Her hands froze as she opened the bodice of her dress. She was breathing hard, and her mind was a flutter of fear and confusion. Her fingers became useless as she fumbled with the lace without success. She couldn’t do this.

More about Mary Auclair

Mary grew up in the quiet peace of a small rural village in the heart of Quebec, Canada.

She spent her childhood chasing butterflies and catching frogs, playing in the mud and generally being as unladylike as she could. Her love of science led her to complete a mechanical engineering degree at the Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal, where she met the love of her life.

Years later, as she enjoyed the role of full-time mom to her two wonderful children, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a writer.

She now writes as much as her busy schedule allows to bring to life her inner world, filled with exotic planets, mysterious creatures and off course, hot, alpha heroes and the women who melt their hearts.

When she's not writing, she can be found in the garden, walking her dogs or playing with fire in her kitchen as a part time hit-or-miss chef.

Excerpt:

Endora moved and Aldric gave her just enough space to lift her head, but his arms were locked around her. She was instantly trapped in his gaze, like prey. Unable to move, unable to resist the magnetic pull of him, she lifted her chin. Aldric’s breath caressed her lips and she felt light-headed. Heat spread low in Endora’s belly, where her most intimate need roared to life.
“So, you think I won’t know how to touch you?” His eyes were heavy lidded, and his fingers dug into her lower back, splaying out on her skin to pull her into him. “How to kiss you?”
He bent, not giving her time to answer, or to protest. His lips found hers and her mind was wiped clean of thoughts. He kissed her like a drowning man—desperately. His touch was an all-consuming possession, his tongue hot and demanding, taking hers by assault. Passion filled her body and she answered the kiss, joining her tongue to his. He tasted like a winter storm, cold and pure. Endora reached behind Aldric’s neck, spreading her fingers in the silky mass of his hair.
Their kiss deepened, swallowing everything in its wake. There was nothing in the world but Aldric and her ever growing need for more of him, more of his body, more of his touch. She was a puddle of want, pure woman’s need.
“What are you doing to me, woman?” Aldric pulled back just enough to speak. His voice was a low growl, vibrating deep in his throat. “I have never felt this for any other before.”
“Kiss me again,” Endora answered, out of breath.
His mouth closed on hers with purpose, bending her will, making her blind with desire. Endora moaned softly, and Aldric growled in her mouth. The hands on her back moved; one hand grabbed her nape and tilted her head back to give him better access, and his lips closed on the fragile skin at the base of her neck. He kissed and nipped the taut skin, just where her jugular was beating a frenzied beat, while his other hand slid down and closed around her ass, pulling her into his hard erection.
“Oh, Gods,” Endora moaned.

Excerpt:

She turned to face him, with all intentions to thank him like she’d never thanked anyone before. Her words stumbled on each other and were lost before they escaped her lips.

The first things her eyes focused on were the bars. A cage. The stranger, her savior, stared from the other side, his shining bright blue irises fixed on her like on prey. His appearance struck her across the brain like a blow.

He was completely bald, and his ear-less head was smooth and round. The features on his face were sharp and angular, with prominent cheekbones and brows, accentuated by a straight nose marred by three ridges. His was a sensuous face, direct and challenging, the face of a man used to the reaction of others to his superior strength. His mouth was stretched in a superior smile, and Rose’s eyes caught on his full, fleshy lips, parted to show a row of pearly white teeth. And fangs. He had two long, sharp fangs where humans had merely harmless canines. His midnight blue skin shimmered in the dusty light, and as the air cleared progressively, so did the fog in Rose’s head.

Her eyes traveled across the landscape of tiny scars marking his skin in a regular pattern over his cheeks, forehead, and along his jaw. He wore pants, but no shirt, and his exposed torso was a tangle of lean muscles, bulging with strength going down to his waist. He was a fine man, with power and raw testosterone leaking from every pore of his being. Supremely masculine, attractive to no end, and definitively not human.

Oh, my God.

She knew what he was.

“You’re Eok.” The words stumbled from her lips in a whisper, as if she spoke them any louder, they would bite her tongue.

“And you’re human.” His eyes traveled up and down her body in a slow assessment.
