What can you expect? Here’s what some readers have to say:

  • A love story that went right to my heart and left me dreaming of her strong men.

  • It's different and very well written. There are plenty of different elements to hold the reader's interest. The characters are well written and described. The interactions between the couples is hot and sexy.

  • This is a light-hearted, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny book, so I was really surprised that the ending made me tear up a little.

  • The characters are well-developed and very interesting and the book deals with loyalty, love, and adventure.

  • I loved this book. It was easy to read, entertaining, and with just enough heat.

Blurb:

Identical twins, Verity and Felicity (Lissie) Pettigrew inherit an abandoned farm in the remote hills of the Methow Valley. Little do the twins know, but their windfall harbors a secret. While exploring the old barn, Verity stumbles into a hidden portal and is instantly transported more than one hundred years into the past.

In 1885, on the same farm, Will Dawson is saddling his horse when a disturbance in a corner of the barn catches his attention. In his haste to rescue the gorgeous woman in the center of the disturbance, Will is flung far into the future.

Meanwhile, Lissie arrives on the farm looking for Verity, but finds the handsome, slightly suspicious cowboy instead. From their first words to one another, sparks fly.

Lissie’s modern manners and profane language offend Will. His solution? Some old-fashioned discipline delivered on the spot.

Affronted by Will’s distinctly un-twenty-first century approach to male/female relationships, Lissie challenges his authority at every turn in spite of nearly always ending up over his knee.

Meanwhile, Verity must deal with life in 1885. Although accepted into Will’s family, she longs to get back to the 21st century and the man she loves.

Can Will live in a future in which progress comes at the price of everything he holds dear? Can Lissie win him over, and teach him that women can be independent and willful but still soft and sexy? Will Verity find her way back to the man she loves?

Publishers note: This stand alone love story includes scenes of domestic discipline and spicy romance.

Today will end like most: me soaking in a deep tub. A small selection of bubble baths will sweeten the ritual. Anyone who has read my books may have picked up on my daily devotion. It starts with me picking one favorite bubble bath.

Recently I accepted this Facebook challenge: post covers of 7 books that changed your life. One a day for seven days. No explanation. Just upload the cover and nominate a friend.
Normally I might have quoted Neil Gaiman:

aaaneil.jpg

But decided to narrow the list of my loves. Here are the ones I pulled out of my brain that week.

1. Bird by Bird – this encouraged me to try writing fiction. I’m still trying.
2. Madeline – the first book I can remember reading on my own
3. The Story of O – I found this while snooping in my older brother’s room. He had the best records and books. I was fifteen at the time. This probably did change my life. It certainly changed my fantasy life, in ways I kept secret for years.
4. Pride and Prejudice / Bridget Jones’s Diary – Pride and Prejudice is a perennial favourite. I’ve read it at least 6 or 7 times. Even though I’ve only read Bridget Jones once, it is a sister book to P&P.
5. Beyond Heaving Bosoms – this book said: write romance. So I did.
6. The Virginian – Before writing A Time for Will, I read The Virginian. This year my LM and I listened to it as an audiobook as we drove through Utah, Montana, and Wyoming. Magic.
7. The Giver – compelling and frightening. A utopian veneer hiding a dystopian reality seems too close for comfort these days.
This ‘favorite 7’ list is one day’s version. Many adored books were left behind. It’s too hard to choose only 7.

Can you name a single book that changed your life? A top ten? How did those books affect you?
Which bubble bath is the favourite tonight?

#WEWRIWA A Time For Will - an awakening

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, where writers share an 8 to 10-line snippet of their writing. You can read other excerpts by clicking on the image at the top or end of this blog post.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing my time travel-erotic romance called A Time For Will.

The story so far: solar storms have ripped a hole in the time-space continuum sending Will Dawson forward in time from 1895 to 2017. He has landed on the long-abandoned Pettigrew farm in the Methow Valley near the North Cascades. Later that same day, sisters Lissie and Hope Pettigrew arrive for the weekend.

Lissie and Hope originally thought that Will was an actor, hired by their sister as a practical joke. Now it’s been established he’s from the past. He thinks the year is 1885.

A dreamlike sense swept over Lissie. No, she thought. He’s pretending. He has to be. She shivered, forcing herself to answer. “It’s not 1885. It’s 2017.”

For a moment she thought Mr. Dawson was going to collapse. His skin whitened under his suntan. Then, as if he could change the world simply by willing it, he took a big lungful of air and straightened his shoulders. He pulled off his dusty hat and ran his hands through his thick, shaggy hair.

“Well what do you know about that?” He threw back his head and laughed. Lissie had never heard a more beautiful sound.

Welcome back to the blog hop where writers share their work with a choice snippet. You can read other excerpts by clicking on the image at the top or end of this blog post.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been sharing my time travel-erotic romance called A Time For Will.

Lissie and Hope originally thought that Will was an actor, hired by their sister as a practical joke. As they talk to him further, they start to understand he is not of their world:

Will put his hands on his hips. “Exactly when did you leave Seattle?”

“Just before noon.”

“Don’t lie to me.” He clenched his hands. “No one can get from Seattle to here in a single day.”

Lissie took a step back, exchanging a worried look with Hope. A frisson of understanding raised goosebumps on her arms.

“Exactly what year do you think it is?” she asked, her voice as dry as powder. As she waited for him to speak, her stomach flipped. She braced herself for what she knew would be an outrageous answer.

“It’s 1885.” He set his mouth in a firm line, his strong jaw flexing in the fading light.

I wrote this book six months ago but over the past week scientists have been warning of the effects of an imminent solar storm. Check out one of the less alarming articles here:

Welcome back to my time travel-erotic romance called A Time For Will.

The story so far: solar storms have ripped a hole in the time-space continuum sending Will Dawson forward in time from 1895 to 2017. He has landed on the long-abandoned Pettigrew farm shortly before sisters Lissie and Hope Pettigrew arrive for the weekend.

Last week we saw Will and Lissie interact for the first time. She thinks he’s an actor sent by her practical joker sister.

You can see that excerpt here. Needless to say, she offended his old-fashioned sensibilities and this week we see his reaction:

He caught her wrist. “What sort of a girl are you, talking to a man like that?” His grey eyes glinted with outrage.

“I’m a modern sort of a girl,” she said. “I take what I like.” She reached with her other hand and stroked the dark hair that curled around his ears, under his hat. “Nice.”

Before she could register what he was doing, he grabbed her hands and pinned them behind her back. His long, muscular fingers held her two wrists together effortlessly.

She bent backwards slightly as he held her in front of him.

“You touch me again without permission and I’ll cut a switch and tan you so soundly you’ll eat standing up for a week.”

“For fuck’s sake, Verity,” Lissie shouted into the woods. “We’ve all had a laugh now. Call off your goon. Enough is enough.”

#WEWRIWA A Time For Will #Erotic #Romance #SciFi

Do you like a little time travel with your erotic romance? Writing A Time For Will was fun as I combined the genres of romance and erotica with a touch of SciFi.

The story so far: solar storms have ripped a hole in the time-space continuum sending Will Dawson forward in time from 1895 to 2017. He has landed on the long-abandoned Pettigrew farm shortly before sisters Lissie and Hope Pettigrew arrive for the weekend.

Lissie and Hope think Will is an actor, sent by their sister Verity who loves practical jokes. Lissie decides to play along (edited for brevity):

“Okay, Verity,” she said to the bushes. “You can come out now.”

“I told you,” Will said fiercely, “I’m the only one here.”

Lissie grinned. “I believe you, cowboy.” Sidling next to him, she caught his primal smell; it spoke of hard work and honest labor.

He narrowed his eyes at her.

She brushed some dust from his shoulder. “I’ve been asking Santa for someone like you my entire life. I guess the wait was worth it.” She made a kissy face at him.

#SatSpanks - When is a choice not a choice?

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all my American friends! I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend. For the month of November, I’m sharing excerpts from A Time For Will, a time travel romance.

Will Dawson has been transported to modern times from his home in 1885. The portal for the time travel is in the barn.

When he arrives in 2017, he figures the ranch is still his. to this way of thinking, that makes him master of the house.

He’s laid down some rules for sassy, impudent Lissie Pettigrew. The only problem is, Lissie isn’t good with authority. In this scene, he has her by the hand and has taken her to the barn:

Lissie’s stomach turned to water. “Why are we here?”

“Why do you think?” he asked, closing the door behind them.

“We’re going to try to go through the portal back to your world?”

“We could do that. But not until I’ve tanned your hide properly for sass, cussing, and disrespect.”

He leaned against the door, blocking the only exit to the building. Lissie glanced around. The only things in the barn were a long wooden bench and a couple of stirrup leathers. Surely he couldn’t be planning to use those.

“I’m sorry about that smartass comment to the roofer. He was getting under my skin with that ‘you’re a woman, you wouldn’t understand’ stuff. I said the first thing that came to mind. I should have thought before speaking.”

“That is true.” One corner of Will’s mouth lifted. Damn him. He was enjoying this.

“Okay, I’ve said I’m sorry. You’ve had your apology. Now I need to get back to the house to keep an eye on what all those workers are doing.”

“You’ll have plenty of time to do that. But at this precise moment, you’re going nowhere. You and I are going to do a little reckoning.”

He straightened up, moving away from the door. “I’m feeling generous today. I’ll give you a choice. You can drop your drawers and let me spank your pretty bare bottom.”

Lissie blushed at his knowing tone as he spoke of her body. “Or?”

He glanced at the stirrup leathers. “Or you can preserve your modesty. I’m happy to punish you over your trousers, with one of those leathers.”

“That’s a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea.” Lissie crossed her arms in front of her, as though she could ward Will off, or at least protect herself from what was coming next, by the simple act of hostile body language.

#SatSpanks - laying down the law

Thank you for visiting. This month I’m sharing excerpts from A Time For Will, a time travel romance.

Will Dawson has been transported o modern times from his home in 1885. The deserted ranch he finds looks only vaguely like the one he left behind. Nothing has prepared him for the sassy, outspoken girl he meets there, Lissie Pettigrew.

As far as he’s concerned, the ranch was his long before her name was on the title, therefore he’s still master of the place. Lissie is slowly getting used to this idea.

The ripple of the muscles in Will’s thighs as he pinned her down made Lissie’s heart race.

Undistracted by anything about her, he said, “You will speak to me with respect, do you understand?” His hands made circles first on one bottom cheek, then the other.

Lissie wasn’t going to be intimidated that easily. She pressed her lips together.

“I said, do you understand?”

When he started spanking her, she realized that she’d forgotten how strong he was.

Smack smack smack.

“Yes! I understand!” she said, despising herself for giving in so easily.

She danced on the spot, struggling to get away from him. Wriggling only made him hold her wrists together tighter.

He smacked her bottom harder. “I don’t want to hear any cussing, swearing, sassing or backtalk from you.”

“Okay. I said, yes, I understand.”

He spanked the top of her thighs. “If I do, you’ll get one of these each time, understood? Only the spankings will get harder and last longer.”

He delivered another volley of slaps to her reddening bottom.

#SatSpanks - Don't poke the bear

Thank you for visiting today. This month I’m sharing excerpt from my time travel book: A Time For Will, Will Dawson has travelled to modern times from his home in 1885. On the now deserted ranch, he’s met Lissie Pettigrew and her younger sister Hope who have agreed to help him adjust to life in the 21st century.

This is the morning after they’ve met and Will has come into Lissie and Hope’s bedroom

“We have a very busy day ahead of us. Out of the sack, lazybones.”

Will smacked Lissie’s bottom.

“Hey!” She threw back her sleeping bag, nailing him with the stink eye.

“You better take that look off your face, little darling, or I’ll take it off for you. Right now it’s time for you to get up and fix us some grub.”

“I’m not your fucking maid.”

The words were barely out of Lissie’s mouth when Will closed the distance between them, taking hold of her forearms. He raised her off the cot with as little effort as lifting a pillow. Then he marched her over to the window seat.

“Hey!” she screamed, trying to stop his action with the volume of her voice. Her efforts to escape him while he held her in his viselike grip were useless.

Ignoring her protests, he planted one foot on the bench of the window seat, while bending her over his knee and lifting her nightie. He murmured with satisfaction at the sight of her naked bottom.

“How handy,” he said, not bothering to hide the smile in his voice.

Lissie wished she’d worn panties but she suspected that wouldn’t have made a difference. He would have just pulled them down. She’d poked the bear and the bear was angry.

#SatSpanks - A thorn by any other name

Happy November! If you’re in the Pacific Northwest like I am, I hope you enjoyed this week’s blast of winter. Time to curl up in a comfy chair with some spicy romance. How about a sweet love story with a time travel twist?
In A Time For Will, Will Dawson has traveled to modern times from his home in 1885. On the now deserted ranch, he’s met Lissie Pettigrew and her younger sister Hope. At the moment they are sorting out the correct forms of addressing each other. Will, being from a bygone era, had expected they would call each other Miss Pettigrew and Mr. Dawson respectively. Lissie has persuaded Will that such formality would be jarring in the 21st century. He agrees to use first names.

Lissie smiled at his capitulation. “Will it is then. You may call me Lissie, short for Felicity. You can call Hope, Hope, short for pain in the ass.”

Will leaned over, took her chin with one hand and turned it toward him. “I may be your guest but my claim to this property goes back long before you came here. Therefore, I will be the master of this house and you and your sister will learn to mind me. I mentioned your language before and I do not want to have to mention it again.” He let her chin go and turned to make sure that Hope was listening. “I will not speak to either of you about coarse language again. If I hear either of your cursing, if either of you sass me, you will go over my knee for a quick correction. Do I make myself clear?”

“You do.” Lissie forked a piece of meat and brought it to her mouth without looking at him. Warm dampness blossomed between her thighs. Her body was betraying her, building a hunger that was totally wrong in the current situation. The self-loathing that followed it did nothing to extinguish the desire coursing faster and faster through her veins.
