Erotic historical romance

An interesting year.

eaf6f865b7ead990db997bdb868b7ad7--deep-breath-tv.jpg

I’m trying something new this year. For the first time ever I’ve planned a series of four books, well 1 novella and 3 novels, and won’t release any of them until all four are completed. The series name is Without Mercy. The books are:
Unbowed, novella prequel
Unseen, book 1
Unchosen, book 2
Untamed, book 3
Each book follows the romance of one couple as an entire community tries to solve the mystery of the murder of the powerful matriarch.
This is the first murder mystery I’ve written. It’s the first time I’ve pushed myself to complete a series in so quickly. I’m not one of those fast writers who can turn a book out every 1-2 months.
I had to book a slot with a brand new editor months in advance.
It’s the first time I’ve worked with cover artist Dani Rene at Raven Designs.
So many firsts! I’m definitely out of my comfort zone.

Vikings - a box set from a group of stellar authors!

Hang on to your hats! Filled with action and suspense, the Vikings are waiting for you.
Battle-hardened and broad-chested, with arms strong enough to sweep you off your feet, these warriors are pure muscle, with shoulders built for carrying you to bed.
Nine great authors have created this shared-world series of supreme alpha hotness: Ashe Barker, Lily Harlem, Felicity Brandon, Gianna Simone, Vanessa Brooks, Sassa Daniels, Sky Purington, Emmanuelle de Maupassant and Jane Burrelli.

Here’s a taste of some of what lies inside:

A tiny Scottish settlement at the mercy of its enemies.
A harrowing bargain struck for nine fearful and reluctant brides.
Delivered into Viking hands, the brides of Achnaryrie now belong to their conquering masters but, as wedding nights bring surrender to duty, will fierce lovers also surrender their hearts?|The Highland wilderness is savage, life is perilous, and the future uncertain, but each Viking has sworn protection, and there are no lengths to which a man will not go to safeguard the woman he loves.
Against the forbidding backdrop of medieval Scotland, join these indomitable heroes and intrepid heroines as they discover that the raging storms of fear and passion can transform into enduring devotion.
Disclaimer: Vikings, a boxed set of nine 'enemies to lovers' shared-world romances features happily-ever after endings, and some very steamy scenes, including elements of discipline.
All-new and exclusive.

‘The world building is phenomenal’

Teaser snippets from the Prologue

The Vikings were merciless, murdering barbarians. And they were here.
With a despairing sob, Eithne turned from the sight below. She could still run, might be able to make it into the depths of the forest before the first of the raiders reached the village. She had perhaps a few minutes…
“To take up arms against men such as them would lead to certain death.”
“Better to die with honour—”
“Better still not to die at all. I have another idea. We shall negotiate.”
“By your presence here, I surmise you wish to speak with me.” He leaned down to murmur in her ear. “Or, if you prefer, there is still time to run for your life.”
“You would catch me,” she countered.
“Aye, probably.”
“And kill me.”
“It may not come to that.”

Intrigued, amused, and not a little astonished, Brandr folded his arms to regard her. “A bargain? You seek to bargain with me?”
“I do.”
The female held his gaze, an accomplishment which eluded many of his most hardened warriors. His respect for her audacity and fortitude nudged upwards. “Go on.”

Excerpt:
Lizzie turned to face Thomas, furious. "It's my house, and I have every right to leave it if someone is in danger. I honestly thought it might be you!"
"I'm a grown man, Lizzie. I can take care of myself. And how is it James let you out? I left him with instructions to keep you inside."
"He tried to stop me, but he couldn't. It's not his fault."
He rolled his eyes. "Good Lord. I take my eyes off you for one single moment—"
"You don't own me, Thomas," Lizzie snapped, her hands on her hips, and faced him.
Large hands gripped her waist, and a moment later, she found herself thrown over his shoulder. A hard hand delivered an even harder swat to her bottom.
Her head came up at the swat. "Oh! How dare you, Thomas! Put me down!"
"When I'm ready. And at the end of the day, you should know you've earned a spanking,

and I'll be the one to give it. Keep that in mind throughout the afternoon. Especially if you're tempted to disobey my orders again."

Excerpt
“Excellent. Now we begin your first and most important lesson - tragor. In your language, it has many meanings. But I believe duty is a good word. Through your duty, you must submit. Submission is your tragor. Do you understand what that word means?”
“Yes, Duna Trea. I am a very obedient person. When my aunt or uncle requested I do something, I did it without question.”
“But yesterday I told you not to speak to anyone unless spoken to first, yet you disobeyed me. And did it to Gon-Dra Malacke.”
“I am sorry,” said Branwyn. “I was frightened and confused. I…I did not know who he was. But Leah explained these things to me.”
“So, do you state that you understand tragor?”
She closed her eyes and nodded.
“Then stand and remove your upper garments. Unlace your bodice, let it and your sleeves drop to your waist.”
With trembling fingers, Branwyn tried to comply, but the laces refused to undo.
Duna Trea waited while Branwyn fumbled with the laces. “Now your shift. Expose your body.”
Branwyn’s muscles stiffened. A chill swept through her. “But I will be naked! One should not expose one’s body to another. It is against the—”
A flash of anger filled Duna Trea’s eyes.
Remembering Leah’s instructing and her discomfort, Branwyn did not want to cause any more pain to her. Surely, Duna Trea knows it is wrong to expose oneself. She paused, hoping her duna would rescind the order.
“Tragor.” One anger-filled word hung in the room.
Eyes squeezed shut, and bottom lip trembling, she reached for the bow to loosen the front of her shift, tugged on the right sleeve and removed her right arm. She gripped the material in her underarm and lowered the left sleeve. Placing her arms in front of her breasts, hands clasped under her chin, she raised her elbows, letting the material drop.
“Lower your arms.”
Three simple words cut Branwyn like knives. She tried to drop her arms, but the muscles refused to obey. Tears slipped between closed lids and trickled down her cheeks.
“Tragor, Dune.”
With every muscle fibre fighting the motion, Branwyn lowered her arms but held her hands clasped before her.
“Place your hands behind your back. Complete exposure. Good girl. Now step this way.”
Duna Trea stood next to Malacke.
Wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, Branwyn stepped over and stood next to Trea. “Have you ever touched a man?”

Her Celtic Masters by Ashe Barker

Merry Christmas! If anyone knows can deliver a rollicking romance well told, Ashe Barker is that person. She’s here today with another exciting novel you won’t want to miss: Her Celtic Masters.

Two fierce Celtic Warriors with a thirst for vengeance, and the proud Viking lady with the strength to submit.

Blurb:
Left penniless and without a home by a sudden, tragic turn of events, twenty-year-old Kristin Lofnsdottir plans to start a new life as a seafaring trader. If she is going to have any chance at surviving, however, let alone succeeding, she'll need money and capable men to protect her. A partnership with a pair of Celts offers both, but Kristin quickly realizes that the arrangement will mean sharing much more than just her profits. The two stern, handsome brothers intend to make her theirs, demanding obedience, punishing defiance, and mastering her beautiful body together.
Though Nyle and Bowdyn have been given plenty of reason to hate Vikings over the years, conquering the feisty, headstrong Kristin proves even more satisfying than they had anticipated. As they claim her ever more thoroughly and shamefully, her need for them only grows more intense, but can they be firm enough to tame her recklessness before it puts them all in danger?

Publisher's Note: Her Celtic Masters is a stand-alone sequel to Conquered by the Viking. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

Excerpt:

“Open your legs, little Viking.” The command was softly spoken, yet firm. Nyle expected her to obey.
So, she did. She planted her feet on the mattress between Nyle’s long legs and parted her knees.
Bowdyn chuckled. “A tolerable effort, but we can do better.” He took her left ankle and lifted it over Nyle’s leg then set it down on the outside of his brother’s thigh. He repeated the action with her other ankle, then set his hands at her waist to ease her further up Nyle’s body. Thus positioned, Nyle had ample access to her breasts. He could toy with her, torture her nipples as he pleased, whilst at the same time her thighs were spread wide for his brother. “Ah, yes,” Bowdyn confirmed, “much better.”
“Is she wet?” enquired Nyle pleasantly enough.
Bowdyn drew the flat of his palm between her legs, pausing to part the lips of her pussy as though to particularly examine that spot, then rubbed the heel of his hand on the sensitive nubbin at the front.
Kristin stifled a squeal. She knew of that place, had discovered it for herself whilst bathing, but no hand apart from hers had ever ventured there. Baldvin Ryggiason had shown not the slightest interest in exploring his bride’s more sensual desires. Until these last few minutes she, herself, had been largely unaware such urges existed. Certainly, the powerful nature of her own arousal had been a mystery to her. These Celts were a revelation indeed.
“Yes, she is wet.” Bowdyn raised his hand to show his brother.
“Did I not tell you it would be so? It takes but a gentle tug on her nipples,” Nyle paused to squeeze and twist again by way of demonstration, “and she gushes like a waterfall. I believe the staid, proper, and very stern Kristin Lofnsdottir is nothing more than a wanton at heart. Is this not so, little Viking?”
Wanton? The very word sent her senses reeling. Could he be right? Oh, she most sincerely hoped so though the words became lodged in her throat. She could not answer. She could only feel.
“Open the lips of her cunny and put your fingers inside her. I believe this is what she would like. Am I right, my Viking?”
Freya, help me… The silent plea went unanswered. Kristin had to shift for herself in this matter. So, she did. She nodded.
“There, it is as I thought. But be gentle, brother. I get the impression our Viking is unaccustomed to such treatment.”
Kristin could have blessed Nyle for his perceptiveness. It was as though he had somehow crawled into her mind and knew all her secrets, her desires as well as her fears.
Her brief interlude of clarity and coherence shattered the moment Bowdyn spread her nether lips with his fingers and inserted one long digit into her tight channel. She expected to flinch, to hurt. Her previous experience of this act, though infrequent, had been sufficient for her to know she found it uncomfortable, painful even. And oddly disappointing.
All those doubts and uncertainties were swept aside in the surge of pleasure that threatened to engulf her. Bowdyn withdrew his finger then drove it deep again, harder this time, faster.
“If this hurts, you may tell us,” whispered Nyle.
“It… it does not hurt,” she managed. “Oh. Oh!”
Bowdyn increased the speed of his thrusts and added a second finger. The friction was unbearably sweet yet still not enough. Kristin squeezed her inner walls around his long digits and circled her hips.
“I believe our Viking is rather enjoying this. Is that not also correct, Kristin?”
Must she answer? Could she? Was she truly enjoying what was happening to her or was it some other compulsion that drove her to thrust her hips forward and consider begging for more?

More about Ashe Barker

USA Today best-selling author Ashe Barker has been an avid reader of fiction for many years, erotic and other genres. She still loves reading, the hotter the better. But now she has a good excuse for her guilty pleasure – research.

Ashe tends to draw on her own experience to lend colour, detail and realism to her plots and characters. An incident here, a chance remark there, a bizarre event or quirky character, any of these can spark a story idea.

Ashe lives in the North of England, on the edge of the Brontë moors and enjoys the occasional flirtation with pole dancing and drinking Earl Grey tea. When not writing – which is not very often these days - her time is divided between her role as taxi driver for her teenage daughter, and caring for a menagerie of dogs, tortoises.  And a very grumpy cockatiel.

At the last count Ashe had over forty titles on general release with publishers on both sides of the Atlantic, and several more in the pipeline. She writes M/f, M/M, and occasionally rings the changes with a little M/M/f. Ashe’s books invariably feature BDSM. She writes explicit stories, always hot, but offering far more than just sizzling sex. Ashe likes to read about complex characters, and to lose herself in compelling plots, so that’s what she writes too.

Ashe has a pile of story ideas still to work through and keeps thinking of new ones at the most unlikely moments, so you can expect to see a lot more from her.

Excerpt from Yuletide Yielding by Ashe Barker
He paused, eyed her with a curious blend of exasperation and something else also. Something softer, warmer, more compassionate. “You did not hope to wed me yourself, did you? You must realise that is impossible.”
“I know that. I have never said—”
“But you have wanted it? Wished it could be so?”
“Perhaps,” she whispered. “But I am not a fool. I am a thrall. Vikings do not marry thralls.”
“They do, on occasion. But I am not merely a Viking. My brother is the jarl. I have responsibilities. Even so, I do not wish to hurt you, and I would prefer that you could be content with what we have.”
But even if you are not, it is happening anyway. The words lay unspoken between them.
His expression hardened. “I have said all I wish to on this matter. We will not speak of it further.”
“Very well.” Resigned to her situation since she could not alter it, and to her coming punishment, Lynet stared at her bare toes. “Do you want me to take off my clothes?” Apart from the blanket and Stian’s cloak, she wore only her thin, rough woollen night smock.
“I do. Then you may arrange yourself across my lap.” Stian started to unfasten the leather belt around his waist.
“You would beat me with your belt?” Lynet recoiled. “I had thought you meant just to spank me.”
“Disobedience alone would have merited a spanking. Your dishonesty requires something a little sterner by way of correction. So, you will undress then come here, Lynet, and accept your punishment.”

Excerpt:
Tobias frowned. "I have the distinct feeling, Miss Obedience—"
"Obie."
He took a deep breath and repeated his statement once again. "I have the feeling, Obedience, that you're doing your best to manipulate me. And while I am a gentleman, I don't take kindly to attempts at playing me like a puppet. A word of warning to you. I do spank young ladies who are intent on it."
Was that a brief widening of those big blue eyes he saw? If so, she recovered quickly.
"Oh, if I gave you that impression, sir, I do apologize. But please answer one more question?"
He was glaring; he knew it. At the moment, he wanted to grasp her by the shoulders and put her across his knee. Badly.
"Go on," he said, through clenched teeth.
"Well, I was just wondering if the only other reason was because there is no place in town to stay?"
"We were told there would be a hotel for us to stay in when we arrived." Danny looked up at him, keeping her voice soft.
"There is one being built as we sit here, ladies. But it's not finished. And even if it were, there is no female chaperone to look out for you."
"I see." Obedience was chewing her lower lip thoughtfully.
Tobias narrowed his eyes. "Do you?"
She nodded eagerly, and dimples showed as her eyes twinkled mischievously. "And now, I believe I can share my surname with you, Sheriff." But that was all she said, and he leaned down toward her, a threatening growl to his voice.
"I'm waiting, young lady," he said sternly.
She leaned back in her chair, a wide grin spreading across her delicious mouth. "My name is Obie Ann Bartlett," she said triumphantly. "Faith Bartlett is my aunt."
He stared, his eyes narrowing even further.
She stared back. Finally, she leaned forward, her chin resting on a small gloved hand. "So you see, sir, we do indeed have a safe place to stay. And a chaperone."

My favorite Heroine?    One with intelligence, integrity, courage, and firm determination. I love to have the heroine and hero ‘make a difference’ in the surroundings and lives of others in the story.
And needless to say, my favorite hero is an "Alpha male" who loves his woman to distraction, but is smart (yes, in my opinion, smart is extremely sexy!) stern, and willing to be as strict as necessary to protect her from danger, even danger from herself.

Revenge in the Highlands by Brandy Golden

Brandy Golden brings us a tale of drama and high stakes today. Revenge in the Highlands is book 2 in the Revenge Series but can be read as a standalone novel.

Eileen is driven by pain and betrayal, can a loving hand heal her broken heart?

Blurb

Morgan MacAlister and his wife, Kat, return to the Highlands to reclaim Morgan's heritage, only to find that the sister he left behind is waging a war of vengeance on their traitorous half-brother, Canton. Eileen is no longer the innocent young girl he remembers.

Gallagher Glencairn has returned with Morgan to reclaim his own inheritance and finds that the golden-haired lass with the beautiful haunted eyes now rules his clan. Gallagher is determined he'll take his clan back any way he can. He gives Eileen two choices: she can agree to wed him, or he will wage war against her and take his inheritance back.

Eileen is tough on the outside but harbors a terrible secret within – a secret of pain, betrayal, and a fierce desire for revenge.

Publisher's Note: Revenge in the Highlands is a steamy historical romance, set in the another world and another time. It contains old-fashioned, loving discipline.

Excerpt:

Eileen studied her elderly husband closely, looking for signs of duplicity. Cold wrath burned inside her, yet she realized he meant what he said. Women were just possessions to be moved about and used as needed; their feelings didn’t mean anything. They were pawns in men’s masculine endeavors and they should accept their dictates without question.

“Looking for absolution are ye?” she scoffed, refusing to give him a trickle of credit. “Especially now that death is upon ye?”

“Nay, lass,” he replied flatly. “Just the assurance that what I have decreed will be carried out. Jamie will see to it that the babe stays here to be raised to his inheritance and status in life. Ye are free to go if ye wish, I’m done with ye.”

Eileen trembled with the force of her frustrated rage but knew there was little she could do. There was nowhere to go, no place to hide and her son did deserve his honors. At least the old curmudgeon owed her that.

“Oh, I’ll stay, ye can rest assured of that. My son will have what is due him. It’s the least he deserves for the manner in which ye brought him into this world."

“Be silent!” The Laird shook with anger and he reached out to backhand Eileen but collapsed into a fit of coughing, his face turning mottled.

Jamie sent her a warning glance but Eileen was beyond caring a whit.

“At least ye have no control over what I do once ye are gone,” she mocked, feeling no pity for him whatsoever. “I’ll raise my son to hate ye, to be a curse on your name and I will rule the Glencairn clan myself.” She hugged her son fiercely to her breast. “Not only that, but I’ll wage war on my half brother and relieve him of Castle McKenna and rule the Macalister clan as well. Morgan Macalister will rue the day he left me defenseless.”

Brandy Golden in her own words:

I’m a sweet romance writer with some hanky spanky play added in. I like to write about strong alpha males who don’t mind taking their ladies in hand when they need it and who want to share the special bond that spanking can bring between a couple. My stories are mostly basic simple discipline in a romantic setting with very protective men. Cowboys, pirates, business suits, you name it, they are all sexy when they are dominant and I love to write their stories. I’ve been writing on and off for around fifteen years now and I still love it. You can find me in middle america, cowboy and ranching country, with my husband and a wonderful family of children and grandchildren around me. I hope you enjoy my adventures as much as I enjoy creating them for you. ~ Brandy

Conquered by the Commander by Pippa Greathouse and Ruby Caine

Just released! Conquered by the Commander in the enormously popular Conquered series by Pippa Greathouse and Ruby Caine is now on sale.

Would her past be allowed to rob them both of their future?

Blurb:

Lillianna Collingwood is beautiful and graceful, but she is every bit as hot-headed as her hair is red. When she decides to marry Earl, the commander of the Arabella, she is completely unaware that his name is not really “Earl” at all. He is Lord Darby, the son of the Earl of Darbyshire. Elated, at first, she soon realizes she now has to learn to act the part of a lady. Having grown up in a convent orphanage from the time she was five, she’d learned to be wild. She excelled at cheating in cards and considered stealth as one of her best virtues. A lady? She’s not sure she can do it.

But Darby has a reason he hasn’t told her who he is. She’s entirely too concerned with titles, money, and things. He’s not only determined to teach her those things are not as important as character, but he’s also determined to teach her that her hot-headed behavior is not acceptable.

Lily tries, but she isn’t prepared when the past seems to come back to haunt her. Her past, her nightmares—everything seems to be against her when she arrives. Even Darby’s own mother refuses to accept her into the family, making her feel an outcast. Darby remains her rock, her anchor, but Lily is unable to make herself confide in him about the terrors that plague her night after night.

And Darby fears he is losing her. Can he save her before it’s too late?

Excerpt:

An hour later, Lily realized she had yet to fret about the mill since the game started. Darby sat across from her, regarding his cards with a guarded expression. She gave him an innocent look before asking if he wanted any more cards. “Two,” he grumbled. “Did you notice, dear wife, that when you deal, the odds always appear to favor you? Cheaters pay a heavy price, Lillianna. You would do best to remember that when you hand me those next two cards.”

He watched carefully, scowling as she flicked two cards his way, but it was impossible to see from where in the deck she took them.

“Did you notice, my Lord,” she said, mimicking his exact tone, “how cranky and suspicious you become when you are losing at cards? Or is it the lack of clothes you’re currently wearing which is irritating you? I can give you back a piece of your clothing if you like.” A mischievous grin lit her eyes. “Perhaps your cummerbund will warm you a bit.”

Relaxing in her corset and shift, she still had her stockings and shoes on, whereas poor, unlucky Darby was down to his last vestige of dignity. Narrowing his eyes at her, he picked up his two cards and the briefest of smiles touched his lips before vanishing. She pretended not to notice as she regarded her own hand.

“Are you sure you wish to see this hand through to the end, my Lord?” Lily made a production of frowning at her own hand. “I have taken up enough of your time today. I’ll just pick up these cards and set the furniture back in place. You mother would be extremely displeased to know you sat upon her favorite chair wearing little more than the day you were born.”

His voice was a growl. “Lillianna?  You can return to your seat and finish this hand, or I will bare your arse, bend you over the arm of this damn chair and spank it bright red.”

Lily took her seat reluctantly, frowning at him. “It’s the cold leather on your bare legs making you cross, isn’t it, my Lord? Try not to stick to the seat, sir. Your mother will no doubt notice any sticky residue. And…” She looked up, with a sly smile. “As you have nothing else to raise the bid, perhaps I should fold.”

A smug expression crept into Darby’s eyes. “It’s too late for you to fold, Lillianna. It looks like your corset now belongs to me. I have three of a kind.”

“Impressive, my Lord, but…” She flipped over two cards bearing the same face. Then she slowly, one at a time, revealed two more cards, the only remaining members of the deck matching the first two. “I have two pairs.”

“Four of a kind?” He stood up, his legs leaving damp imprints in his wake before he leaned over the table to glare at her. “You little cheat.”

More about the authors:

Pippa Greathouse has been writing since the fifth grade, after each student was given an assignment to read aloud a story to the class of her their writing.  One horrified teacher later and a class of students who thought the horror story was “cool,” and she was hooked.

Since then, the writing has continued. She now is an author for Blushing Books, and loves what she does. Her favorite genre is historical fiction romances, where men are “strong, Alpha men” and their feisty ladies who are in need of the discipline they are sure to provide. And historical fiction is perfect for that!

Ruby Caine

Ruby Caine, exclusive writer for Blushing Publication. Pippa Greathouse is one of her favorite historical authors, and when the opportunity to work up with Greathouse came up, Caine jumped at the choice. She and her family live near the Big Easy and her stories often take us through the historical setting which follows along the mighty Mississippi. Her Spirits of River Oaks series revolves around the powerful psychic Lenore, who often gets messages from those who have passed on from this world. Another series by Caine is called Katrina’s Aftermath, a group of four contemporary romances minus the paranormal theme. Rounding out books by Ruby Caine is a standalone called Making the Wright Connections, featuring a bratty signer tamed by a sexy cop.

Blurb: Primrose Latimer has a fiancé to be proud of, a gentleman destined to become Lord Trewithe of Pencullen House in Cornwall, but a case of mistaken identity scuppers her chances of ever becoming his Lady wife. Her hopes and aspirations dashed, she is determined that the man who has ruined her, a Cornish smuggler, shall pay dearly for her losses.

However, fate and Jago Poldrunne have other plans for Primrose, as swirling sea mists and smugglers abound!

Disclaimer: If fast paced, romantic, humorous romps, featuring strong, handsome commanding gentlemen are not your thing – then please do not buy this seductive, 18th century romance!

Excerpt:

They were ensconced together within his cabin. He in his captain’s chair with her tossed cosily across his lap, doing her utmost to avoid his correcting palm with absolutely no success. Strangely Jago could not remember the last time he’d enjoyed himself quite so much. She was a comely baggage, albeit one with a sharp tongue. Although she deigned to show no fear, he had to admire her courage in what must be a singularly frightening situation for her. He continued to raise his arm, bringing it down with strong emphasis, until she slumped dejectedly across his knee. Only then did he lower his hand to rest upon her rounded posterior. Gently he massaged her heated globes, she moaned, unconsciously shifting her hips upward to meet his soothing palm.

JP: ‘Did Primrose put you up to this? Are you married to an Excise man? What exactly is it that you want to know?’

VB:“I have no connection with any Excise men neither does my husband I assure you and Primrose had nothing to do with this but I’m curious, what would you have done if she had been involved?”

JP: ‘Did no one tell you that curiosity killed the cat missy -Carry on with these personal questions and you might wish you hadn’t found out the answers, Mistress brooks.’

VB: “Um, okay, well would mind just telling me a little something about yourself please?”

JP: ‘I’m a Cornish man, born and bred and proud of it. My father t’were Squire of Poldrunne but he died a couple of years ago so now I am Squire. The people of Cornwall relied too heavily upon tin mining and for an age our children ate and had clothes upon their back. Then came cheaper tin imports from abroad and our mines began to close. This caused terrible hardship and starvation, no one seemed to care that the people of Cornwall were dying. Men turned back to the sea. Some returned to a life of fishing while others turned to smuggling but the important thing was our people lived and filled their bellies once again. O’course there was other means to feed a family. Evil men took to wrecking, luring ships onto the rocks in order to steal the cargo then sell it on.’

VB: “I take it that you don’t hold with wrecking?”

JP: ‘No, I most certainly do not! My but you’re an impertinent wench! You are married you say, Mistress brooks?’

JP: ‘Here wench give that to your husband, tell him ’tis a gift from me!’

VB “That’s terribly kind but no thanks I...”

JP: ‘Take it. Mayhap I should demonstrate its use?’

VB “Um, no need, thanks for the um, gift. I have to go, bye-ee!”

VB to herself: What exactly is my husband meant to do with a piece of old tar rope?
