Revenge is best served by a hot, smart cowboy.
Blurb:
Deputy Sheriff Rhett Cooper is heartbroken when Katherine Foster, the young lady he has been courting, falls prey to the scheming of a rich, dapper con man. Though he takes the impetuous girl over his knee and spanks her bare bottom soundly, his strict chastisement and stern warnings do not dissuade her, and she runs off to San Francisco in the scoundrel's company.
When Katherine finally returns home six months later, arriving in town in a fancy carriage with the arrogant, smooth-talking rogue at her side, it quickly becomes apparent that she is quite ill. Rhett soon learns foul play was involved, and he sets out to rescue the woman he loves and bring to justice the man who hurt her.
In spite of Rhett's demand that she leave the matter to him, as soon she regains her health Katherine puts herself in jeopardy yet again by attempting her own revenge.
Determined to rein her in, Rhett punishes Katherine thoroughly and then claims her properly, and soon their passion for one another is burning hotter than ever before. But even if he manages to keep his woman under control, can a small-town lawman win a battle of wits with a clever, ruthless criminal?

Excerpt
Though she was horrified by the confrontation, Nate’s words and the promise of such an amazing holiday were again filling Katherine’s head. How could she turn down such an opportunity? It wouldn’t be forever, it would just be a couple of weeks at most. Nate was a gentleman, and he was such a lonely, sad man, and on top of all that he thought she was special. He’d said so. She loved being special, especially to someone so worldly and accomplished.
“Well, Katherine, answer the man,” Rhett said sternly. “Is it up to you, and you alone? You don’t care what I think? What your father thinks?”
Her heart was pounding so hard she thought it was going to jump right out of her chest and land on the table. She felt trapped, and try as she might, she found herself unable to come up with anything to say.
“I told you not to speak to her that way,” Nate barked. “You’re upsetting her.”
“Katherine, dang it, girl, think for a minute,” Rhett said, lowering his head to speak to her softly and ignoring Nate. “Use your head! This man is a complete stranger. You’ll be alone with him in a big city with no friends to look out for you.”
“He’s a lovely man,” she retorted, amazed that her voice was suddenly working. “He’s a businessman, and he cares about me. I would have such a grand time, and it wouldn’t be for long. Just a short visit.”
“But you don’t know that, Kate. You can’t go!”
“I do know,” she spat, “and I want to go, so I’m going!”
“This has gone too far, and I’m sorry, young lady but you’re comin’ with me,” Rhett abruptly exclaimed, and grabbing her wrist, he pulled her to her feet. “This snake-oil salesman has your head all turned around, and I won’t let you do somethin’ so foolhardy.”
“Let me go,” she shouted, jerking her hand from his grip. “Nate’s right. I’m of age and I can do what I want, and what I want is to go to the city with him!”
“You heard the lady,” Nate said, stepping between them. “You’d best leave before I call the sheriff.”
“I am the sheriff,” Rhett said gruffly, “at least, I’m the deputy sheriff.”
“Is that right? And what are you going to do? Arrest me for enjoying this young lady’s company? For treating her to dinners and describing a world she has every right to experience if she chooses?”
“Dinners?” Rhett repeated, his voice a low growl as he turned his head and stared at her. “Katherine? Dinners?”
“Have you got a problem with that?” Nate sneered. “She didn’t, she had no problem at all. Ask her. She’ll tell what a fine time we’ve had together. Very fine indeed.”
As if propelled by a life of its own, Rhett’s fist suddenly blazed through the air, landing in the man’s gut and sending him toppling to the floor.
“Rhett! What have you done?” Katherine gasped. “Why did you do that?”
“I’ve just saved your sorry butt,” he declared, then deftly lifting her off her feet, he threw her over his shoulder.
“Put me down! Put me down!” she howled as her legs kicked and her fists pounded his back. “How dare you?”
“You’re bein’ foolish, and you may not want me anymore, but you sure as heck aren’t gonna be takin’ off with some fancy man you don’t know.”
“I hate you, I hate you!” she screamed as he marched from the hotel and across the street to the sheriff’s office.
“Yep, I guess that’s true, but it ain’t gonna stop me spankin’ some sense into your butt.”
“How can you be so mean?”
“Stop your squirmin’ and squawkin’. It ain’t gonna help.”
She did stop, but only because she’d run out of breath. Her fury was boiling over. Rhett had ruined everything. He had no right to interfere. It was her life. If she wanted to go off on an adventure it was up to her, and as he opened the door and walked inside she hoped and prayed that Nate wouldn’t leave town. She wanted the holiday, she wanted to have a wonderful time in the city!
“Now then, young lady,” Rhett declared, kicking the door closed with his foot. “I’m gonna spank your sorry backside, then lock you in a cell while I go fetch your pa.”
“You’re a beast, and you’re mean, and I hate you!”
“Yep, I reckon you do,” he said solemnly as he effortlessly sat down, simultaneously shifting her body and laying it over his lap, “but I still care about you, and I’m still gonna do what’s right.”
“What’s right is letting me live my life as I see fit!” she shouted, trying in vain to wriggle out of his grasp.
“Not if it’s gonna see you in all kinds of trouble,” he replied, pushing her skirt and petticoats out of his way, “and I hope this’ll help you see sense.”
Lifting his leg over the backs of her knees, he sent his hand to work, spanking her briskly, landing his palm with rapid-fire smacks over the thin cotton of her drawers. He wanted to be quick, but he needed the spanking to count.
“Stop it!” she howled. “Stop!”
“You’ve been cheatin’ on me,” he scolded, “and that hurts, Kate, that hurts a whole lot more than the sting my hand is givin’ your backside, but that’s not why I’m spankin’ you so hard.”
“Rhett, please, stop, please. I wasn’t ow, ow, cheating, not ow, ow, not really.”
“Dinners?” he said, pausing to speak. “Secret dinners? You sure as hell were. There ain’t no other word for it.”
“But it wasn’t like that,” she whimpered, trying to reach around to rub her scalded skin. “It wasn’t. We didn’t kiss or anything.”
“You were about to run off to San Francisco with him, and you don’t think he’ll kiss you once you get there?”
“I won’t let him,” she lied, knowing full well she’d almost kissed him the last time they’d been together.
“I dunno what’s happened to you, Katherine Foster, but…”
“But what?”
Suddenly grabbing the waistband of her drawers, Rhett did the unthinkable. His adorable, sweet Kate, the girl he loved, the girl he wanted to marry, was being seduced by a man he was sure was a scoundrel, and she was lying to him. He wasn’t having it. If she didn’t want him anymore so be it, but he would not allow her to become victim to the man in the hotel, nor would he allow her to turn into a duplicitous, dishonest woman. With a sharp tug of his hand the cotton fabric ripped away, exposing her naked bottom.
“Nooo!” she shrilled. “Noooo!”

More about Maggie Carpenter in her own words: Male dominance/ female submission is my passion. My alpha males range from down-home spanking cowboys, to sword-wielding warriors, aliens with unique physical attributes any human male would envy, and of course, accomplished wealthy dominants (though they don't need dollars to melt the hearts of their sweet subs).
Being an old-fashioned romantic with my own white knight fantasies, heart-felt sentiment is alive and well on the pages of all my novels.
